Scooter and Moped Accidents
Brief description
Scooter and Moped Accidents
With South Florida’s warm and sunny weather, many residents and tourists use scooters and mopeds to get around. While these devices and vehicles can be fun, inexpensive, and environmentally-friendly, Florida’s traffic congestion means that scooter and moped riders are more likely to get into an accident – sometimes with serious or fatal injuries.
At Lady Justice Injury Law, we’ve seen accidents due to the rider losing control of the device, causing them to collide with a pedestrian or vehicle. Motor vehicle drivers might not see a scooter or moped in traffic, and accidentally turn in front of them, sideswiping the device, forcing the scooter off the road, or opening their vehicle doors onto an oncoming scooter. Other accidents involve faulty scooters or mopeds, or pedestrians tripping over the devices and seriously injuring themselves.
Scooters and mopeds are smaller than cars, trucks, and other motorized vehicles. They just do not offer riders the same level of protection.
While injuries will vary depending on the severity of the accident, some of the most common types of scooter and moped injuries include abrasions, whiplash, broken bones, soft tissue injuries, head injuries, skull fractures, spinal cord injuries, and traumatic brain injury.
